EDUCATION SYSTEM

Education in India is provided by the public sector as well as the private sector, with control and funding coming from three levels: federal, state, and local. Child education is compulsory. The Nalanda University was the oldest university-system of education in the world[citation needed]. Western education became ingrained into Indian society with the establishment of the British Raj.

Education in India falls under the control of both the Union Government and the states, with some responsibilities lying with the Union and the states having autonomy for others. The various articles of the Indian Constitution provide for education as a fundamental right. Most universities in India are controlled by the Union or the State Government.

HIGHER EDUCATION CHALLENGES

Union environment minster jai ram ramesh criticized indian institute of technology(IIM) saying the faculties are not upto the mark and the institutions are surviving because of students. Union Human Resource development minister Kapil Sibal supported his views. But both of them agreed that students are top class.

Our present scenario is that the rich is getting richer and poor is getting poor. rich can afford expensive education by very reputed institute whereas poor will go for standard cheaper institute with loan as long as it bears tag of PHOREN . The competition of IIT and IIM with outside institute does not end here. There are some obligation for indian institute. They are as follows:-

1. Inclusion of all and exclusion of none: we can't refuse admission to anyone on the basis of caste creed and religion etc.

2. Need Based: The courses offered should be need based. The requirement of the students nation and society is considered while granting permission to the institution.

3. Quality:There are various bodies monitoring standards of the institution and these bodies have the power to take away the affiliation.

4. Cost Effective: Indian institute have a separate free prescribing committee. they have to show their accounts and convince the committee that these institute deserve a fee hike.

5. Access to all:It means that all the down ridden element of the society should be encouraged to join your institution with certain benefit like scholarship, free ship and reserved seats.

Education institution in india can be setup only by trust, societies and charitable companies, but the profits cannot be taken out of the institution and have to be reinvested. Not only does this restriction hamper explanation. It also encourages promoters to resort to creative accounting to take out the profits from institution. currently it is not possible for non profit companies under article 25 of the companies registration Act like industry association-to set up an institution and get university status and recognition from the university grant commission.

There is huge exploitation of faculty in indian education scene by the private management. Therefore the inclination of bright students opting for teaching as career is nill. Teaching career is not the crust of the careers. what will happen to this already precarious state of teachers, once the outside institute start playing more?

internaitonal education has become big business with perhaps 3 millions of student studying outside their own countries and billions of pounds, euros and dollars being generated from tuition, living expenses, branch campus exist but estimates are in hundreds, almost all in developing or middle income countries. The market is growing and basically unregulated. it is indeed the wild west or more accurately.Nothing wrong if we make use of the strong wind in order to surge ahead. only certain care should be taken to see that we don;t go the other way.
